What we mean by sativa

Sativa is Best Value Weed's head-focused, daytime shelf. Like indica, it's organized by effect rather than grade — every cultivar here is AAAA+ quality, hand-trimmed Ontario indoor or well-sourced equivalent. What sets the shelf apart is the direction the high goes. Sativa cultivars lean cerebral: energetic, conversational, creative, sometimes a little bit motivated. That's in contrast to the body-heavy, couch-bound indica feel. For a longer breakdown, see indica vs sativa vs hybrid.

Chemically, sativas tend to express more limonene, pinene, and terpinolene — terpenes associated with citrus, pine, and that bright, sharp top note you get from a jar of Super Lemon Haze. Most modern "sativas" are technically sativa-dominant hybrids; true landrace sativas from equatorial regions are rare and slow to grow, but the phenotypes that made it into modern genetics still carry the classic feel.

Who sativa is for

Morning and afternoon smokers. People working on something creative — writing, making music, drawing, building. Anyone doing something social, like a daytime walk or brunch, who wants to feel engaged rather than couched. Hikers. Gardeners. Weekend-cleanup-playlist smokers. Customers who find indica too sedating or find themselves falling asleep when they didn't mean to.

Strains that show up regularly on our sativa shelf include Jack Herer (clear-headed, spicy-pine, a daytime classic), Durban Poison (pure-sativa landrace with sweet-anise terpenes), Sour Diesel (fuel-forward, energetic), Super Lemon Haze, and Green Crack. THC typically sits between 19 and 24 percent. Sativa can be sharp for newcomers — start with half a joint if you're unsure.

How we price Sativa by size

Sativa shares the effect-shelf pricing tier with indica and hybrid. That's $8 per gram, $25 for an eighth (3.5g), $45 for a quarter (7g), $80 for a half (14g), and $120 for a full ounce (28g) — roughly $4.29 per gram at volume.

For the opposite end of the effect spectrum, see Indica; for something more flexible across the day, Hybrid. If you'd rather shop by grade, the same cultivars would sit on our AAAA+ shelf. More in our grading guide.
